Laying Grid
Start in corner of project area with male tabs of first grid facing towards the center of the area. Line up female slots of next grid over male tabs of first grid.
Press down with feet to lock grid into place. Repeat until area is covered with connected grid.
- Gravel Fill: Fill grid with desired aggregate to top of grid. Lightly compact to settle.
- Grass Fill: Fill grid with soil and seed or sod.
How to install TRUEGRID?
Prepare Area – A base layer is recommended for vehicular traffic, heavier use, and softer soils. Base depths will vary from 2”-8” depending on use and loading for most applications. A base may not be needed for light loading, simple erosion control, or areas with stable existing soils.
- Excavate down the depth of your base plus 1.8” for DECO pavers.
- Compact the soils with a hand tamper, plate compactor, or jumping jack.
- Recommended: Install a permeable geotextile fabric on the bottom and up the sides of the excavated area.
- Install base material for stone / gravel: can be a 3/4” inch to 1.5” clean, sharp drain rock
- Install base material for grass infill: can be a ¾” minus road base or other sandy-gravel mixes.
- Compact base material in maximum 4” lifts.

1) my project area took 20 of these grid squares (2 boxes of 10) (80 sq feet). The hardest part was prepping the area first as I live in Massachusetts and my soil is loaded with rocks and roots. I dug about 2 inches down and tried to rake it so it was level as best I could.
2) Put down a layer of gravel, approx half an inch.
3) lay the grid squares on a flat surface and click them together. Then put them on top of the gravel. Put in the paver stones and then walk around on them to see if it feels stable and level, adjust the gravel and use a level to double check if you have one.
4) fill in around the pavers and grid with gravel. I think I used 15 bags in total.
5) top off with larger rock, I used river pebbles, probably 6 bags in total.
It actually gets better with time as weather and use solidifies the stones together. It has really handled all the rain we've been getting, and I think has helped keep water out of my basement/ minimized the mud in my backyard.

I pulled back a path of the rock, laid these down, and refilled the rock. The cart just rolls on through. I would have never been able to move 2 yards of rock by hand in the molasses.
Now I would like a few more to continue the path to the grass. All in due time....
I used for my kids playground. If you compare the cost of this product vs standard material to improve the ground surface it will be almost zero, but your time and effort will be reduced notoriously.
In one day we installed the grid and the crushed stone. We even put sun inside the grid in some areas and covered it with artificial turf. The soil is stable and the rain is not longer an issue.
My kids love his new playground.
